Diference between blue passport and green passport in Portugal.

It has come to our attention that some people have been spreading the word that Green passports are issued for slaughter horses. This is not true and a misinformation!

The Portuguese national authority (DGAV) has issued a green colour passport to identify all horses that are not registered in a Stud Book.

All horses are obliged to have an identification document, so if your horse is not pure breed you will either have a Green passport or you will have to register it in the Raças Selectas as a crossbreed, only difference is the price, green passport is 7.50€, the other is around 240€

Other difference will be transporting the horses in long course journeys – anything over 8h:

- Green passport horses are not considered registered horse so for every 24h driving they will have to rest 24h in stall at an approved control stop with a vet control, also lorries will have to have a tracking GPS system that register temperature in the container.

- Raças Selectas horses, are considered registered horses, so as Blue passport they will not require any mandatory rest stop or any other vet check besides the one prior to departure.

Conclusion , all the horses can get blue passport not only APSL Lusitanos !
